’64 Mustang Coupe good first car?

Well, there is a local -64 and a half Mustang Coupe near me for sale, he said 3500, but if he goes under 2000, would a '64 mustang be a good first car? The interior is nice but the outside has many flaws, it will definitely need work done on it, but I have 2 years before I even get a permit (I'm 14), and I would be willing to work on it everyday for 2 years if it could be my first car, because I think it's really nice.
It's 6 cylinder
If I get it, I'm probably going to add power brakes and steering.

If it’s a rust bucket, not a good beginners car. If not, go for it! American muscle forever!

I personally like the first year of the Mustang; the drawbacks are : no power steering, no power brakes, no power windows, and a 4 lug bolt pattern (with the original 13″ wheels). The 6 cylinder and the 3 speed trans with the floor mounted shifter are great :] Also lots of parts available

Get a qualified mechanic or vehicle inspector to give it a thorough inspection before you start dealing. Older Mustangs are great cars, but there are so many hidden areas in the unibody design that can cost you big bucks to fix. If the floorpans, torque boxes, rocker panels, and inner quarters are rusted out, you could easily spend another 10 grand just getting the body back into safe condition. The gas tank is another area of concern on the old ones, it can be rusted out, and even with a good tank, they are prone to rupture and explosion in a rear end collision (this can be prevented by using a fuel cell, but that’s another thousand bucks). The parts are relatively cheap, but you need to have some basic mencahnical ability or a mechanical budget, they don’t run trouble free like new cars, and there is no ABS, fuel injection, electronic ignition, etc. that newer vehicles have. A mechanic that has trained in the last 15 years might not even know how to work on it.

He knows what he has it is the first year they came out they didn’t
come out until 64 and a half there for there are not that many of them
left they are worth more if keep original and if some one can help
plus teach you how to do the work it will be a nice classic car for you.
Don’t think he will drop much on it

You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes. sinfree. net
