what should i do with my 351C and how should i modify it? (only people that know alot about engines please).?

I just bought a 72 mustang and it has a 351C 4v. it has a cam, a 750cfm holly 4barrel duble pumper, a 463 rear end or something like that, and some more extras that i dont really know. i need to know how to make it better and were i could get the parts. first i need to know what i can do that is cheap. then the more expensive parts. i just really need help, and what is the best thing to do first. i dont want to do too much, but i want it to be bossy. i want around 500 horse without a supercharger, and i want it all to be efficiant and bring the powre straight to the wheel, without a whole lot of gas robbing. then i will put on a super charger, but what should i do with that and how. if u can, give me ur emails to so i can contact u and get info through that way to. wat should i do?

Nitrous Oxide is the answer. V8s take very well to these kits. They call it the Supercharger in a bottle.

You don’t want something gas robbing. Nitrous is on only when you need it. You literally turn it on and off with a switch.

You don’t want to spend a lot of money. Nitrous oxide gives the most bang for the buck. A dry system will give you an additional 50 – 100 horsepower fir between $300 – $500. A wet system will give you an additional 100 – 200 horsepower. These cost between $400 – $600. And the sky is the limit with a multi stage system, but you would seriously be risk breaking parts with one of these.

A nitrous oxide system could be installed by someone with moderate mechanical skills in a weekend. Just make sure the rest of the drive-line is up to the task. It is quite embarrassing breaking at the line and watching you opponent drive off, unchallenged.

Check the Summit Racing website for kits.

Well to get 500 horses is not cheap. You’ll need really good valve job, with springs and retainers. A bigger cam a better intake manifold, a good set of headers, ignition, higher compression pistons, get it balanced. You can get 400 horses alot cheaper. Or you can build a strong bottom end and then go with nitrous. Hope this helps.

One of the tricks for this engine is to turn the crank down to use bearing spacers on the main bearings. The engine will rap out faster.
The problem is that then you will have a weaker crankshaft just like a stock Chevy ( or even a built one).

heres what id do- pull the cleveland out and put a 1994-1997 351 winsor stroked to 408 in with afr 205 heads, 850 holley carb, victor junior intake, and a nice big hydraulic roller cam. should get you 500 horse pretty easy and give you close to the same mileage youve got now, be low maintinence, and you wouldnt have to change the tranny. if you didnt care about mileage you could pick up a 460, stroke it to 545, put some trick flow street heads on it, solid roller cam, victor intake, 1050 dominator carb, and have 700 horse.
one more thing- you cant just bolt a supercharger onto a naturally aspirated build- itll melt the pistons. you have to build it for the supercharger from the start.

You can make good power with the Cleveland but it depends, like anything else, on your wallet. Getting 500 HP out of it will not be easy. Can be done but not that cheap and not sure how reliable it will be on the street. It may have a cam in it but is it the right one? Call Comp Cams and tell them what you plan on doing and they can make a suggestion. What kind of intake you plan on using? A dual plane makes good torque and is nice on the street. A single plane makes good top end horsepower but you might hate it on the street. 4. 63 gears are pretty high for the street might want to change that. Look at it as a package from engine, trans and rear. It all has to work together and when it does you’ll have a nice running car that you can enjoy. The 72 heads are open chamber heads and don’t make as much power because for one reason they are down on compression. You could get some 70 or 71 4V heads and the compression will jump up or get some Australian Cleveland heads. Just search on Ebay they have become very popular with the Ford guys (no smog crap to deal with). I think 400 HP is very realistic and easily obtainable with that motor and with the right trans and gears, that car will be pretty fast and also a lot of fun on the street. If you want more power for the track, nitrous is a cheap fix and will give you that 500 HP, even if it is for just a 1/4 mile. I’m not a nitrous guy because it can cause big time damage but if setup correctly its the cheapest way to make HP. The one thing to think about with the Cleveland is the oiling system. If you plan on spending a lot of time in the higher RPMs get the oiling system worked out. Clevelands are notorious for the crappy oiling system. If just for the street I wouldn’t worry about too much. And by the way Clevelands already have the smaller crank bearings which mean less friction when turning over. The Windsor has the big 3. 0 mains. The Cleveland makes good power because of those massive heads. Especially the 4v like you have.
